«Direct speech» или прямая речь — это слова какого-либо человека, передаваемые буквально так, как они и были произнесены. На письме прямая речь выделяется кавычками, а после слов, вводящих прямую речь, ставится запятая.
She says, "The lessons begin at 9 o’clock." –
Peter and John were classmates. One day they were going from school together. John asked Peter how he was get along. Peter said that he was all right. He asked John what he thought about the last test in geometry. John said that he had found it rather difficult and added that he was not very good at solving problems. Peter wondered why John did not ask him to help him and added that he would do it. John thanked him and said that he would. Then he wanted to know if Peter had a lot of homework for the next day. Peter answered that he had. He remarked that John knew the timetable and that Friday was always a bad day. He reminded John that they had six lessons the next day and that all the subjects were difficult. He added that besides there would be questions from his little sister because she was not very good at sums. John agreed and said that he would come to Peter's place the next day in the evening, if Peter did not mind. Peter agreed and suggested making it the next day. He added that he would be waiting for John.
There is a range of natural disasters that are considered to be extremely dangerous to people. I personally think that earthquake is the number one catastrophe in the world having a huge impact on humanity. The latest data collected by scientists all over the world confirm my point of view.
The earthquakes that have taken place in recent years have been both multiple and devastating. They have easily destroyed cities and villages causing enormous economic damage. Hundreds of buildings have been torn down by those disasters burying thousands of people under the fallen roofs and walls. Children, young and old people have been killed in a moment and nothing could have been done about it.
So, the earthquakes happening almost daily throughout the world are really the most deadly and harmful natural disasters that one could imagine. Although there are a lot of scientific laboratories that can predict an earthquake and inform people of a catastrophe approaching, there is no guarantee of avoiding it and saving people's lives as many of them ignore such information and stay inside their homes. Thus, it could be said that the number of lives saved during the natural disaster is equal to the number of individuals being aware of its dangerous effects.
