THE HUMAN SPIDERMAN
Alain Robert is one of the world’s greatest daredevils. He climbs tall buildings around the world using just his hands and feet. That’s why some people call him ‘the human spiderman’!
Alain was born in France in 1962, and he started climbing buildings when he was twelve. His family lived on the eighth floor of a tall building, and one day Alain forgot his keys, so he climbed up the outside of a building and went in through the window.
This is a dangerous hobby. Alain fell off a building while he was climbing in Taipei, and he injured his arm quite seriously. He didn’t stop though. Falling isn’t the only danger he faces. In 2005, while he was climbing a building in Texas, the American police arrested him.
So why does he do it? It’s partly because he enjoys the feeling of danger. But he also uses his climbs to make people think about world problems. In 2008, for example, he climbed a 46-floor hotel in Hong Kong while wearing a T-shirt with a message about global warming.
