teens of art
museums are stuffy and boring, right? well, what if you were in charge? the boston institute of contemporary art, in the us state of massachusetts, opens its doors to young people with big ideas. four times a year, teenagers organize exhibitions and events to get other young people interested in art. “many contemporary artists deal with issues of identity, sex and authority – the same issues that teenagers deal with,” museum director jill medvedow told to the new york times. the young curators plan their events in a teen council every week. “i used to think museums were the most boring thing ever,” said 18-year-old donovan birch jr. “but i fell in love with them and had to take part.” the result is four evenings a year of music, art performances and cool exhibitions. now the idea is spreading to museums in new york, seattle and other us cities. “teenagers add energy and excitement to museums,” said jill.
