Discrimination means treating some people differently from others. The problem of discrimination is as old as the human society and I do not believe that people will ever be able to overcome it.
The thing is that we all are born different, we are not identical. There are always people who are smarter, or stronger, or more beautiful, or wealthier than you or me.
Even thousands of years ago, ancient Chinese philosophers said that all people should be equal before the law. In 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed that all people are “born free and equal in dignity and rights”, regardless of race, colour, gender identity, language, religion or other characteristics. In other words, according to the law all people should be treated equally. However in real life people loudly proclaim the equality of all humans and at the same time they support income inequality, gender inequality, educational inequality and others. Almost every day the mass media report about discrimination of one kind or another. For example, employers still prefer to hire men, not women. And such a man must be an experienced qualified employee of a particular age.
When we say that we have almost overcome the problem of religious or racial discrimination, we often forget about new kinds of prejudice which keep appearing in our society. People are discriminated against because of their lifestyle, music tastes or political views.
