Односложные прилагательные состоят из одного слога, а многосложные - из двух и более слогов. Это различие проявляется при образовании сравнительных степеней прилагательных. Сравнительная степень односложных прилагательных образуется путем присоединения к основе соответствующего суффикса, обычно -er и -est. Сравнительная степень многосложных прилагательных образуется с слов more и the most.
Но здесь надо знать некоторые исключения: есть 4 случая, когда двусложные прилагательные образуют степени сравнения, как и односложные. Это такие прилагательные, которые оканчиваются, например, на:
